Barbara Reid Napangardi/Napangarti is the daughter of the internationally renowned Aboriginal Artist Ningura Napurrula, who began painting in 1987, having been taught by her mother. Barbara depicts her traditional Country with a distinctive personal style – typified by intense layers, thick with paint – with many of her paintings featuring the puli (rock hole) formations and tali (sand hills) of this Country where water and bush tucker are found. Essential to Barbara’s work is the women’s sacred Minyma stories involving the role of the women as healers and providers in Ngaanyatjarra society, and women’s ceremonial stories relating to the formation of the natural environment around Tjukurla.
